Hi – I wondered if someone could clarify if the level 3 Advanced Course on iSafeguard is equivalent to the Level 3 Safeguarding Training that the SENCO and Head Teachers are required to have and undertaken by outside providers. I have been saying it is but just wanted clarification.
There is a lot of confusion surrounding the different levels of safeguarding training. The levels were introduced in one version of ‘working together to safeguard children’ but then removed in the next update. There are no universally agreed levels of child protection training in education.
There are however level of safeguarding training in the NHS but these are not easily transferred to the education sector…
The course levels specified by LSCBs in their training courses (that your HT and SENCo may have attended) are again not equivalent amongst LSCBs. They are their own classifications.
If a user completes all of the courses in iSafeguard they will have covered all of the topics detailed in ‘Keeping children safe in education 2016’ and will have a thorough understanding of safeguarding. The only areas that iSafeguard cannot cover are your local policies and procedures.
